They halt the growth of pre-malignant cells and accelerate cell turnover, making cancer cells die faster.

    Ellagitannin has been linked with decreased cancer death rates. A study showed strawberries as the food most associated to lower rates of cancer deaths among a group of elderly people. It was discovered that those eating the fruit are three times less likely to develop cancer against those who are not.

    The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry studied eight strawberry cultivars for their antioxidant components. All cultivars were found to restrain the propagation of human liver cancer cells. Yet no relationship was analyzed between the antioxidant capabilities of the cultivars and the inhibition of cancer cells. This means that this benefit is caused by other content or capacity that is unique in strawberries.
